Adventure Racing

Adventure racing is a combination of two or more disciplines, including orienteering and navigation, cross-country running, mountain biking, paddling and climbing and related rope skills. An expedition event can span ten days or more, while sprints can be completed in a matter of hours. Typically there is no dark period during races, regardless of their length - the choice of when and/or if to rest is left to the competitors.

A sell out event with 101 teams of 3, involved in running, riding, kayaking and navigating their way from checkpoint to checkpoint, made the Sydney Olympic Park AROC Adventure the biggest sprint length adventure race ever held in the Southern Hemisphere. The race took competitiors across numerous parts of Sydney Olympic Park through modes which  involved navigation and orienteering of Bicentennial Park before a bike ride via some scenic checkpoints around Sydney Olympic Park then heading to the Sydney Olympic Park Wharf. Negotiating the River Cat wash, teams paddled up Parramatta River to Kissing Point where they for the time being left their boats to collect a few more checkpoints on foot, a slide down the slippery dip, a climb up the rope tower and then back to their boats and paddle back to Sydney Olympic Park for another bike ride and clearing checkpoints to be the first team back to the Overflow.

Adventure racing uses all the sites and natural habitat surrounding Sydney Olympic Park for its benefit.
