Sport Education
Sydney Olympic Park is more than a place to play and watch sports. The Park offers a wide variety of businesses, academies and institutes who are leaders in sports education where students can learn and develop successful careers in the sports industry.
A key component of Australia’s excellence in sport has come from a significant commitment and investment to educate all those associated with the delivery of sport.
Programs for players, administrators, coaches, referees, medical practitioners and sport scientists exist through secondary and tertiary systems, vocational and specialist courses.
Sydney Olympic Park Authority is directly involved in a wide range of educational offerings;
- The Authority has formed Sport Knowledge Australia, with partners University of Technology, Sydney and University of Sydney to deliver high level courses in Sports Science and Sports Administration.
- With TAFE NSW, a range of courses in 'Venue and Sports Management'

For Primary and Secondary Students the Authority has created the Active Lifestyle Program, which offers clear links to curriculum outcomes for Personal Development, Health and Physical Education K-12 and a range of sports and physical activity options. Across the Park, our many venues and sporting organisations have educational programs. These include:
- Australian College of Physical Education (ACPE) offering tertiary courses in Teaching Physical Education or Dance and Business Management in Sport
- Wilton Academy that offers elite junior tennis development including high school studies
- National Rugby League (NRL) Referees training program
- Australian Sports Commission’s Active After Schools’ presenters training program
- ITAGC offering Diploma programs in Sports Coaching and Development including Golf and Tennis
- NSW Institute Of Sport develops elite sport athletes in all aspects of their sports performance including their Career and Education (ACE program)
- NSW Department of Sport and Recreation offering a wide range of vocational training programs.
Sport Knowledge Australia (SKA) began operations in January 2005 and was established through an $8.7M grant from the Australian government to become Australia's first International Centre of Excellence in Sports Science and Management. SKA is jointly owned by the University of Technology, Sydney, The University of Sydney and the Sydney Olympic Park Authority.
SKA has a clear mission:
- To provide leading edge sport education products.
- To develop, maintain and broker a superior knowledge repository that harnesses global capacity for the benefit of the international sport industry.
- To promote Australia as a leader in sport knowledge.
SKA creates a unique learning environment in sport education which features the following key elements: problem solving, teamwork, industry interaction, a knowledge portal and a unique knowledge base.

The Australian College of Physical Education (ACPE) has trained teachers in physical education since 1917. The college (a fully independent non-profit tertiary institution) is now also preparing students for careers in Teacher Education, Dance, Coaching and the Sports Business areas, of what has become a multi-billion dollar industry in Australia.
The ACPE is training 500 Australian professionals in Sports Studies (coaching and or business), Dance Education, Physical Education, and Teaching during 2004. The college provides flexible degree courses to match and extend personal talents and ambitions.
The college complex is located right opposite the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.

The NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) is the State's elite sporting centre of excellence, striving to improve NSW representation on national teams and to assist athletes to perform at world standard. The NSWIS prides itself on providing quality services to its 700 athletes to enable them to be well-rounded both on and off the sporting field. These services include elite coaching, sport science, sports medicine, sports psychology and career, education and professional development.
As part of its services to athletes, the NSWIS provides an Athlete Career, Education and Professional Development (ACE/PD) Program. The program aims to ensure that each athlete's career, educational and personal needs are met in a range of areas including opportunities in high schools, TAFE NSW and university education.
The National Athlete Career Education Program (ACE) provides the model for the NSWIS unit. Their philosophy is to provide all eligible elite athletes with Career, Education and Professional Development services (ACE/PD). Additionally, their role is to help athletes to achieve their education and vocational aspirations more effectively, without compromising their sporting objectives.
The NSWIS ACE/PD team aims to provide an environment for athletes that will complement and assist their sporting performance. By working with coaches to develop specific needs, their aim is to become the benchmark for athlete service provision in the areas of education - via agreements with universities, TAFE's and schools, career - via links with key organisations and resume development, and professional development - via innovative and proactive programs.
Athletes are encouraged (in conjunction with their coaches) to proactively participate in and effectively manage their own career, education and professional needs. Individualisation of each athlete's program is critical to the success of the support provided.

Department of Sport and Recreation
The Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) assists the people of NSW participate in sport and recreation and their vision is of a community that uses sport and recreation to improve its wellbeing.
DSR offer an Outdoor Education Program which provides a unique opportunity for students to achieve educational outcomes that are not easily taught in a normal school environment. They also offer unique experiences designed especially for small schools, city kids and senior high school students.
