Australian Scout Museum OpeningOn Saturday July 18, 2009 more than 250 members of the Scouting Community gathered at Newington Armory Buildings 146 and 140 for the official opening of the Australian Scout Museum.
Grant De Fries, Chief Commissioner, Alan Marsh, Sydney Olympic Park Authority CEO and the Hon. Barbara Perry MP spoke to the attentive crowd about the museum’s journey and the importance of sharing Scouting’s story with the community.
“This is the first step in a larger heritage project that will bring the contribution made over the last 100 years to Scouting’s social history to the Australian community,” said Grant De Fries.
Once the museum was officially opened and the ribbon was cut, the attendees took their first steps into the heritage buildings which will house treasured Scouting memorabilia and were treated to a number of displays that provided a taste of what members of the public will see when the museum is fully operating.
Once the museum is fully operational, the Scout Heritage Fellowship will manage the displays under the direction of Stephen Dally, the Australian Scout Museum’s curator. Check www.nsw.scouts.com.au for updates on when the museum will be in full operation.
