The Thin Blue Line is a 90mm wide bright blue coloured line marked along the road surface. It guided Sydney 2000 Games marathon competitors along the 42.2 Kilometre route from North Sydney to the Olympic Stadium. It was also used in the Paralympics men's and women's wheelchair marathon. As a tribute to the competitors in this traditional Olympic event, The Thin Blue Line remains outside the Sydney Aquatic Centre on Olympic Boulevard and Telstra Stadium on Dawn Fraser Avenue and at various other places in Sydney.
The line itself has made the metaphoric journey from being a purely functional feature, now re-interpreted as a unique site-specific artwork. The Thin Blue Line resonates with the memory of the 2000 games and connects the central business district, Sydney’s East and the inner western suburbs with the Park.
