The Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games were the catalyst for the creation of Sydney Olympic Park. Although the Games have moved on, the legacy of the Park with its extraordinary natural environment and state-of-the art sporting and event facilities, is now integral to the life of the city of Sydney.
Since the Games the Park has further evolved and is now a place of lively community interaction and a must-see attraction for increasing numbers of Australian and international visitors. Each year more than 7.7 million visitors come to the Park to enjoy its diverse range of leisure, entertainment, cultural and educational activities.
Sydney Olympic Park Authority has a 20 year plan ‘Vision 2025’, that involves an evolutionary process of urban change – a bold and exciting vision that
will create the criticial mass of residents, workers, students and visitors required to establish a vibrant and economically sustainable township.
The next five years will be the ‘growth phase’ at Sydney Olympic Park, in which a significant level of new development will take place across all sectors including residential, retail, office, health, education, food and beverage, and hotels. By 2025 it is anticipated that the Park will support a residential population of up to 15,000 and a daily population of up to 15,000 workers and students.
The vision for the Park is unprecedented. The aim is for continual enhancement of an urban park to enrich the lives of all those who live, work, play and learn here - a living legacy from the greatest event in Olympic history.
