The Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games were the catalyst for the creation of Sydney Olympic Park. Although the Games have moved on, the legacy of the Park with its extraordinary natural environment and state-of-the art sporting and event facilities, is now integral to the life of the city of Sydney.
Since the Games the Park has further evolved and is now a place of lively community interaction and a must-see attraction for increasing numbers of Australian and international visitors. Each year more than 8.5 million visitors come to the Park to enjoy its diverse range of leisure, entertainment, cultural and educational activities.
Sydney Olympic Park Authority has developed the Draft Master Plan 2030 as a blue print for the future development of Sydney Olympic Park. This Master Plan is designed to facilitate the Park's continuing evolution into a vibrant specialist economic centre and urban parkland.
By 2030, Sydney Olympic Park’s growth will accelerate with 1.4 million square metres (GFA) of new construction planned and the precinct eventually catering for a daily population of over 45,000 employees, residents and students, in addition to visitors and event patrons.
The vision for the Park is unprecedented. The aim is for continual enhancement of an urban park to enrich the lives of all those who live, work, play and learn here - a living legacy from the greatest event in Olympic history.
