State Plan - A New Direction for NSW

Celebrate Australia Day the Australian way

Something for everyone mate – and it’s all free!

Aussie movies and music, free soccer clinics, a cultural bazaar and loads of free entertainment…that all adds up to a perfect way to celebrate Australia Day, with Sydney Olympic Park Authority and Auburn Council inviting local families to celebrate at Bicentennial Park.

Families can bring a picnic or enjoy some of the delicious food available in the beautiful surrounds of one of Sydney’s most distinctive locations as they are entertained by a range of Aussie talent. Tim Campbell from Channel 7’s Home and Away will be the MC for the day to introduce the FREE entertainment for the whole family.

The kids can sing and dance the day away with ‘The Wags the Dog Show’ while mums and dads can enjoy a few tunes with Ross Wilson of Mondo Rock and Daddy Cool fame.

There’s no doubt that sport is an essential part of Australian life, with leading soccer commentator and Australia Day ambassador Andy Paschalidis working with Gus Cerro from Gus Cerro Football Academy to hold a free soccer clinic for our future sporting heroes.

The uniquely Australian movie, ‘Babe: Pig in the City’ will be screened along with an episode of Skippy The Bush Kangaroo. To celebrate Australian success in the film industry, the award-winning animated film, Harvie Krumpet will also be shown.

The diversity of Australian culture will be celebrated all day, with activities such as a DJ workshop, a community bazaar and local youth and multicultural performances ensuring that there’s something for everyone.

The NSW Governor, Marie Bashir, will be there to celebrate the achievements of outstanding local residents, who will be honoured in a civic ceremony to award the Auburn citizens of the year.

With sports, movies, face painting, concerts, rides, craft activities and plenty more, the whole family will be entertained and able to celebrate Australia Day in a truly Australian way.
