Say ‘G’DAY’ and celebrate Australia Day at Sydney Olympic Park

8 January 2007

Kids’ rides, live music, a cultural bazaar, a classic Aussie movie and loads of free entertainment. Is there a better way to celebrate all the wonderful things about being Australian? Sydney Olympic Park Authority and Auburn Council are inviting local families to celebrate Australia Day in the wonderful surrounds of Bicentennial Park this year with heaps of free entertainment for the whole family.

There is plenty of fun to be had with the Rug Rats Live show, a special meet and greet with kids’ favourite SpongeBob SquarePants plus a screening of Aussie film, The Castle. The big screen will also be showing classic Aussie shows including Skippy the Bush Kangaroo!

There will be live performances by top party band The Wonderbrass, fantastic world music from Davood A. Tabrizi and Far Seas, plus local youth and multicultural talent to showcase the cultural diversity that has become a defining part of the Australian culture.

Australia Day ambassador, Iva Davies, of iconic Australian band, Icehouse will present awards in the Australian Citizenship and Civic Awards Ceremony, as the community welcomes new citizens and celebrates the achievements of outstanding local residents. He will also give a moving speech, capturing the true spirit of being Australian to celebrate Australia Day.

This all takes place in the beautiful surrounds of Bicentennial Park and families can bring a picnic or enjoy some of the delicious food available in the park. And while in one of Sydney’s most distinctive locations, visitors can observe some of the uniquely Australian fauna that live there with supervised nature activities.

With face painting, free rides, craft activities, movies, entertainment and plenty more, the whole family will be entertained and able to celebrate Australia Day in a truly Australian way.
