Sydney Olympic Park’s Armory Wharf Cafe will re-open in time for Christmas and the summer holidays.
A temporary cafe has been operating from the Blaxland Riverside Park site on the Parramatta River since the popular cafe was destroyed by fire earlier this year.
Sydney Olympic Park Authority Executive Manager Parklands & Environment Andrew Ferris said work commenced in early September and the new cafe would open its doors before Christmas.
‘The new cafe is tucked away in Blaxland Riverside Park on the shores of the Parramatta River, near the entrance to Newington Armory. Entry is via Holker and Jamieson streets, and there is plenty of free parking to help make a day out easy and affordable,’ Mr Ferris said.
The new Armory Wharf Cafe will play an important role in further opening up Blaxland Riverside Park and the Newington Armory to locals and visitors alike, Mr Ferris said.
‘The Armory Wharf Cafe will be a meeting point for locals and give visitors a great new option for dine-in or takeaway food at this increasingly popular part of Sydney Olympic Park,’ Mr Ferris said.
Integral Event Management’s Damien Leonard and Kylie Beckett have been awarded the contract to operate the cafe. Damien and Kylie operated the permanent cafe destroyed by fire earlier this year and have since operated the temporary cafe.
‘Damien and Kylie have demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the local community and visitors to the Park, and we look forward to continuing to work with them in the years ahead,’ Mr Ferris said.
‘The cafe is an open design with large glass sliding doors to maximise natural light and views to the Parramatta River. It will provide inside seating for 70 people and outdoor seating for 60 under an adjacent shade area.
‘A kiosk will allow people to grab something to eat and drink and enjoy the riverside esplanade, nearby picnic areas and the nearby Blaxland Riverside Park and historic Newington Armory,’ Mr Ferris said.
