CRACK THE CODE AT SYDNEY OLYMPIC PARK!

17 September 2008

Calling all budding young detectives! It’s time to pull out that magnifying glass, put on your thinking cap and crack the hidden code.

With a range of group activities and adventure tours for detective kids of all ages, Sydney Olympic Park’s Kids in the Park program is the perfect way to keep toddlers, tots, tweens and teens occupied, alert and switched on during the spring school holidays!

To get those explorative juices flowing, parents and kids can journey through tunnels and backstage areas normally closed to the public at a place where legends are made – the ANZ Stadium. From the spectacular Sydney 2000 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony to Johnny Wilkinson’s unforgettable drop goal to win the Rugby World Cup, the ANZ Explore Tour will give future sports stars, young performers and keen adventurers alike the chance to walk in the footsteps of their fearless heros and venture behind the scenes of one of the world’s finest and most technologically advanced stadiums. Kids will be able to discover how the stadium can be changed from an oval to a rectangular field overnight and with an exciting laser show, this is an opportunity that mums and dads will enjoy as much as the kids!

For all those aspiring detectives, Crack the Code and the Clue Trail are sure to provide hours of fun. Everyday of the school holidays from 9.30am – 4.30pm, kids can use the aid of a compass or map and follow the clues to decode a hidden password. Once the code is cracked and the mystery solved, there is a special spy prize to be collected!

If that’s not enough detective-work for one holiday, kids aged five years and over can put their spy skills to good use at Lake Belvedere where the waterbirds are embroiled in a quarrel about who amongst them is the best bird in the Lake. In this special nature adventure, young sleuths will join the ranger detective team to solve the quarrel once and for all, using binoculars and trailing the waterbirds to investigate the advantages of different types of beaks, tails, legs and feet. New to the Kids in the Park line-up, Bird Detectives is FREE and the perfect way to combine education and entertainment, providing an interactive experience that will give an insight into the intriguing world of waterbirds.

With an incredible 425 hectares of parkland to be discovered at Sydney Olympic Park, Sunday morning walks are a great way for the entire family to start their day in spring. For walks with a difference, FREE Meet the Ranger tours allow kids of all ages to uncover the Park’s secrets and surprise pleasures. When kids ‘Meet the Ranger’, they are supplied with a pair of binoculars to make sure they don’t miss any wildlife when discovering the Park. The entire family can also learn about the world of frogs and uncover an amazing variety of plants and wildlife on the FREE Brickpit Ring Walk – an elevated circular walkway that provides a great view of the habitat of the endangered Green and Golden Bell Frog.

The Amazing Chase is another FREE activity that is perfect for kids with a keen sense of adventure. Bikes can be hired or kids can bring their own and set out on an amazing chase around the Park, solving puzzles set at each check point. Kids can compete against others by timing their ride and entering Sydney Olympic Park’s time trial competition.

So, with FREE activities allowing kids to hone their detective skills, crack new codes, adventure through nature and learn about wildlife, the Kids in the Park program is the ideal way to keep kids of all ages active, engaged and intrigued during the spring school holidays.
