Parents looking for something to amuse, inspire, stimulate or wear out the kids during the summer school holidays now have the perfect solution, thanks to Kids in the Park, Sydney Olympic Park’s renowned school holidays program.
Kids in the Park takes place across a number of venues within Sydney Olympic Park and includes a myriad of activities for children of all ages and interests. The program will be on everyday of the summer school holidays from December 22 to January 25 and best of all for parents, much of the fun and entertainment is absolutely FREE!
In The Overflow, right beside ANZ Stadium, the FREE Sports Stars Clinic will give kids the chance to move about with their favourite sport or move to their favourite tune.
Future sports stars will also love the amazing skills and abilities of tomorrow’s Olympians that will be on display at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival from 14-18 January, with FREE entry to all events.
Even the Medibank International will be throwing open its doors on Sunday, January 11, with a FREE family day. Kids can enjoy the Fanfest Area where they can interact with players, participate in tennis activities and watch players live in action.
Parents looking for week-long entertainment should enroll their kids in the All-Day Holiday Recreation Program at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre. With obstacle courses; floorball, basketball, soccer and Aussie Rules clinics; as well as arts and crafts, cooking activities and much more, there is something to capture the interest of every child.
The NIDA Filmmaking and Screen Acting workshop is perfect for kids with a creative streak. Participants of this workshop will develop their on-screen ‘it factor’ as they research characters from the past and devise and shoot a short story. With a DVD of their film to take home with them after the workshop, kids will be able to show off their movie debut to family and friends at school!
For kids who prefer to stay behind-the-scenes, the Digital Filmmaking workshop at Newington Armory is the ideal school holiday boredom buster. During this fun and exciting workshop, kids will get the chance to cultivate skills and content for the Kids Broadcasting Channel.
Budding young writers no longer need to imagine writing a book because they can get some inspiration and guidance from Vogel Award-winning author Bernard Cohen in the Write Your Own Book workshops. In three two hour sessions, kids will plan, build and finish their own extended story.
The entire family is sure to love the Marian Street Drama School production of Peter Pan showing at the Armory Theatre. The not-for-profit organisation has created an energetic production that blends great story-telling, original music and puppetry.
For those wanting entertainment of a more domestic nature, Cookies and Craft at Lilies on the Park is a big hit. Working closely with Mums and Dads, children will roll dough, decorate their cookies and prepare them for the chef to bake… best of all the kids get to eat their treats after they’ve cooked up a storm!
There is also the Movies in The Overflow series, which has an incredible line-up of popular films for all ages that will be screened throughout January – and they’re all absolutely FREE!
