Whether its sport, craft or good old family fun, Sydney Olympic Park’s school holiday program, Kids in the Park, is an ideal way to keep the whole family entertained throughout the Easter holiday break.
These holidays, families looking for FREE or GOOD VALUE entertainment will be delighted by the array of activities kids, teens and parents can enjoy for hours on end. The Kids in the Park program will be on everyday of the school holidays from April 10 to April 26, and will take place across a number of venues within Sydney Olympic Park.
First up on the bargain family holiday agenda are a range of activities for budding young detectives and seasoned investigators alike. Starting in the beautiful Bicentennial Park,
The Amazing Chase is a FREE activity perfect for those with a keen sense of adventure. Bikes can be hired or families can bring their own and set out on a memorable chase around the Park, solving puzzles set at each check point. Kids can compete against others by timing their ride and entering Sydney Olympic Park’s time trial competition everyday from 9.30am to 3.30pm.
Keeping up with the spy theme,
Crack the Code and
Clue Trail are sure to provide hours of fun for Nancy Drews and Sherlock Holmes’ of all ages! Everyday of the school holidays from 9.30am – 4.30pm, kids, teens, mums and dads can use the aid of a compass or map and follow the clues to decode a hidden password. Once the code is cracked and the mystery solved, there is a special spy prize to be collected. It’s all for a bargain price of $5!
For those families with an artistic flair, creative and fascinating art works by HSC students will once again be displayed at Sydney Olympic Park’s Newington Armory as part of
ARTEXPRESS at the Armory, with the 2009 exhibition themed ‘Art of Darkness’. Perfect for older kids, teens and adults alike, the exhibition showcases paintings, sculptures, photographs and ceramic works from more than 70 Sydney students. It is on display for FREE until 29 April 2009.
Nature lovers are yet another group who will be energised by the range of upcoming FREE activities at Sydney Olympic Park over the Easter period. For a little relaxation, the elevated
Brickpit Ring Walk will give both inquisitive young minds and knowledgeable nature experts the chance to discover the brilliant habitats of the endangered Green and Golden Bell Frog.
For those families looking for something slightly creepier, the
Spider Secrets tour at Bicentennial Park is a perfect means of unravelling the mysterious life of arachnids. Kids can test the mettle of their parents, grandparents and siblings when they travel under the silver webs and learn how the spiders spin their wondrous yarns. They can also make something creepy-crawly to take home and join in the singing and games throughout the trip. Parents will also love that Spider Secrets is completely FREE.
Finally, sport-lovers will be sated these Easter holidays, with a range of Kids in the Park activities to choose from that are sure to keep mums, dads, grandparents and kids heart-healthy without breaking the budget. Cyclists will gain hours of fitness fun with more than 35km of bike tracks throughout the Park that provide the perfect environment for a FREE family Bike Safari exploration. Sydney Olympic Park offers a great range of mountain, hybrid and children’s bikes for hire or visitors to the Park can BYO bikes. For dare devils who like to live life on the edge,
Mountain X and BMX can also be ridden on Monster’s world-class 4X facility with 250m of meandering, downhill and dirt jumps.
On the other hand, sports lovers who like to keep things more serene will be delighted by the 18-hole
mini golf course at the Sydney Olympic Park golf centre. The venue is open every day from 8am-10pm, and is available at a cost of only $6 (including a ball, putter and score card).
Sydney Olympic Park is overflowing with so many more FREE and GOOD VALUE activities that the whole family will enjoy, including:
- All-new OZ Tag Clinics for boys and girls aged six and over. Being the fastest growing sport in Australia, Oztag is the perfect way to keep fit and healthy this chocolate season, with the added safety of being a non-tackling game. Clinics will be held at Blaxland Riverside Park on 16 and 23 April, and will cost only $6 per participant.
- Kids on Target at The Archery Centre, where kids can learn the basics of Archery with all the equipment and instruction provided for only $15 with a string of Archery-based games at the end of the lesson.
- The ANZ Explore Tour which gives sports lovers a behind-the-scenes, interactive, one-hour ANZ Stadium Tour for only $55 per family
- Trampolining Clinics at the Sports Centre for $15
- Cookies and Craft held Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10am and 2.30pm at Lilies on the Park café. Here, kids will work closely with a guardian as they roll dough and decorate their cookies ready for a chef to bake. It’s all for the bargain price of $15.
