Two icons of classic rock, Def Leppard and Cheap Trick, are set to perform to thousands of fans on Wednesday November 5 at Acer Arena, Sydney Olympic Park.
On their first trip down under since 1992, Def Leppard’s concert performance will be supported by the ever- popular Cheap Trick, and is part of a world tour to promote Def Leppard’s new album "Songs From The Sparkle Lounge".
From humble beginnings in Sheffield, England, 30 years ago, Def Leppard has now sold more than 65 million albums, played to more than 50 million fans and produced 15 classic rock albums that have helped define a generation of music.
On the road to becoming a world-conquering musical force, the band garnered almost every accolade and award available in the music industry and are one of an elite few (along with Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, U2 and the Eagles) to have received two Diamond Awards for individual album sales in excess of a staggering 10 million units for the ground-breaking "Pyromania" (1983) and "Hysteria" (1987) albums.
With singles like “Pour Some Sugar On Me”, “Love Bites”, “Rocket”, “Rock of Ages”, “Armageddon It”, “Let's Get Rocked” and “Photograph”, Def Leppard has become a staple of rock radio all over the world.
With the release of “Songs From The Sparkle Lounge” – the band’s first new material in six years – Def Leppard is back in the spotlight.
The first single “Nine Lives”, a collaboration with country music superstar Tim McGraw, hit #1 on US and UK rock radio, while the album debuted at #5 on the US Billboard Chart, their 11th consecutive US Top 20 album.
”Nine Lives”, ”Photograph” and ”Rock Of Ages” are also featured on the phenomenally popular Xbox and Playstation game "Guitar Hero® III: Legends of Rock", which was released in March 2008.
Def Leppard's spectacular live shows have made them a touring institution, as they continue to sell out arenas around the world. Joined by US rockers, Cheap Trick, fans are sure to enjoy the irresistible blend of pop, punk, rock and metal that the bands create.
With timeless classics like ”I Want You To Want Me”, ”Surrender”, ”Dream Police”, ”If You Want My Love” and the late 80s lighter-waving favourite ”The Flame”, Cheap Trick have sold more than 20 million albums and their songs have been featured on 30 movie soundtracks.
