State Plan - A New Direction for NSW

12 December 2007

Spoilt for choice with free flicks under the stars!

Family blockbusters, chick flicks, Australia’s best and award-winning documentaries are all part of the FREE Movies in The Overflow series screening at Sydney Olympic Park from Saturday, 5 January 2008 at Sydney Olympic Park.

For full event details visit the Movies in The Overflow 2008 event page.

The 2008 series includes flicks that are perfect for families as well as the discerning outdoor cinema goer.

Box office hits that will be screened at The Overflow include Spiderman 3, Bridge to Teribithia, Pirates of the Caribbean 3, Ratatouille, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Shrek the Third.

Movies in The Overflow also continues to showcase award-winning documentaries, Australian and arthouse films that you may have missed at the cinema.

Lucky Miles, a feature film based on several true stories, follows a group of Iraqi and Cambodian refugees who are abandoned on the coast of Western Australia by an Indonesian fishing boat.

Romulus My Father, another Australian film, starring Eric Bana and directed by Richard Roxborough, is ultimately a story of love that celebrates the unbreakable bond between father and son and is based on the life of Raimond Gaita and follows his embattled migrant family in post-war Australia.

The Academy Award-winning documentary that sent a ‘global warning’ on climate change, An Inconvenient Truth, will also be screened.

Movies in The Overflow comes to a conclusion on Sunday 20th January with Short Soup, an international short film festival that celebrates diverse communities rarely depicted in mainstream cinema.

“Last year over 40,000 movie lovers flocked to Sydney Olympic Park for Movies in The Overflow. And its no wonder, we keep getting great films and Sydney really does shine in January,” said Mark Rosenberg, from Sydney Olympic Park Authority.

“Sydney weather is perfect for outdoor cinema, which is why outdoor cinema has become an institution in summer,” he added. “And Movies in The Overflow is a refreshing change for everyone because it’s free!

“It’s the perfect form of entertainment for anyone who has overspent in December.”

Sydney Olympic Park invites families and friends to pack a picnic basket and relax under the stars while being entertained by top quality films – all for free! And for those who don’t have time to pack a picnic basket, Sydney Olympic Park has that covered, with a fabulous range of delicious food on offer.
