For a unique, exciting multicultural experience, look no further than the Pacific Island-style markets, the Blue Palm Tree Markets, held at the Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park every Saturday from 9am to 4pm.
With an entry fee of only $1 and children under 12 entering for free, the markets are a cheap, alternative market shopping option open to all Sydney residents and tourists regardless of their age or nationality. Aiming to bring Pacific Island communities together by providing an outlet for expressing cultural heritage, the Markets also present the public with a distinctive culturally enriching experience.
Styled like a traditional Pacific Island market, visitors to Sydney Olympic Park will see, smell and hear a great variety of cultural products, including traditional foods and fresh produce, seafood, art, crafts, music and fashion. There are also the usual bargain products found at normal weekend markets like clothing, sunglasses, and children’s toys.
Market-goers can enjoy the wide variety of entertainment showcased on an outdoor stage which will include a display of brilliant Pacific Island, Maori and Aboriginal music and dance performances. Entertaining buskers will also perform throughout the market, contributing to the lively atmosphere that will transport visitors across the sea to the Pacific Islands.
The Markets also offer the chance to meet indigenous Australian, Maori and Pacific Island sporting greats, actors, musicians and visiting celebrities every weekend.
The Blue Palm Tree Markets will add Island fun, colour and excitement to Sydney’s leisure scene. Best of all, every stall is undercover so even when it rains the excitement does not stop!
