State Plan - A New Direction for NSW

Sydney’s wetlands put under the microscope

Sydney Olympic Park Authority will this month host a two-day environmental workshop that aims to address the challenges faced by Sydney’s wetlands, which are rapidly becoming threatened ecological communities.

The hands-on workshop, to be held on Thursday 10th and Friday 11th November, will focus on identifying and regenerating aquatic macrophytes.

The environmental workshop provides a unique training approach, with expert ecologists offering tutorials and field study lessons to parkland professionals.

In support of these educational programs, the Sydney Olympic Park Authority, along with the Wetlands Centre at Newcastle, the Banrock Wine and Wetlands Centre in South Australia and the Regional Ecosystem Services based in Canberra recently received a $770,000 grant from the Federal Government to further develop and deliver complimentary wetlands training workshops for environmental professionals throughout Australia.

The Federal Government funding will be spread out over three years, ensuring that important environmental issues have an opportunity to be addressed by some of the leading environmental professionals across the nation.

It’s the fifth year that Sydney Olympic Park Authority has hosted wetland education and training workshops, which encourages professionals to increase their knowledge and expertise on relevant environmental issues.
