New High Performance Tennis Academy for Sydney Olympic Park

NSW Minister for Tourism and Sport and Recreation, Sandra Nori today joined Australian Davis Cup legend Wally Masur for the official launch of a new High Performance Tennis Academy at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre.

The National High Performance Tennis Academy aims to provide an elite training environment where young NSW tennis players will receive a high level of on-court training, physical preparation, sports science and educational opportunities.

“The ultimate goal for this Academy is to create a clearer pathway for young tennis players to pursue professional careers by providing them with the best coaches and facilities,” said Ms Nori.

Former Australian Davis Cup player and coach Wally Masur, heads up the new Academy, which will have an initial intake of between 40 and 50 potential tennis champions.

“Many of these tennis players will already be training in such places as the NSW Institute of Sport, the Regional Academies of Sport and the Tennis Development Centre programs, and this new training institute which will help bring their skills to the next level,” said Ms Nori.

“The facilities at this new Sydney based Academy are designed to interface with the Tennis NSW program, which is the largest state program in Australia and has more than 400 young tennis players enrolled,” she said.

“The launch of the High Performance Tennis Academy is another important step forward in continuing to support our young, professional athletes and I believe there’s no better place to do that than here at Sydney Olympic Park.”

“This establishment of this new tennis academy alongside the soon-to-be-opened, state-of-the-art facility for NSW Institute of Sport is further evidence of Sydney Olympic Park’s position as a major sporting precinct – a place where many young athletes will be coming to develop their skills and fulfill their potential,” Ms Nori said.

The new National High Performance Tennis Academy is one of five facilities across Australia. For more information about the new National High Performance Tennis Academy in Sydney contact Tennis NSW on (02) 9763 7644.
