Sydney Olympic Park saw record numbers attending its summer events program this year.
“Last weekend saw about 8,000 people turn out in the Overflow for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s Mozart birthday celebration—a fantastic number for an open air concert at Sydney Olympic Park.” said Ms Nori.
“In all about 25,000 people attended the four concerts in the Music by Moonlight series throughout February,” she said.
The musical performances were free, with Sydney Olympic Park Authority presenting the wonderfully diverse sounds of jazz, opera, classical and popular music, which were enjoyed under the stars.
“With performances from the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Opera Australia and such pop and jazz icons as Renee Geyer and James Morrison, audiences were able to listen to a consistently high standard of music in an intimate setting.
“The good news is that there was a jump in an attendance for all of Sydney Olympic Park’s events this summer with the outdoor cinema series, Movies in the Overflow, also attracting record numbers of up to 4,000 for some films.”
The free movies series was presented by the Nine Network and Sydney Olympic Park as part of the 2006 Sydney Festival.
“This huge increase in attendance figures shows that the Overflow at Sydney Olympic Park has established itself as a popular entertainment venue, in an intimate setting under the stars.
“It is good to see that the wide variety of events has attracted such diverse crowds, from young and old, families and couples, there has been something for everyone at the Park this summer.
“I look forward to next year’s summer series of film and musical events as I am sure that it will attract even more people,” Ms Nori said.
