Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation, Sandra Nori, says Sydney Olympic Park’s global reputation for excellence as a world-class sporting, major event, entertainment and exhibition precinct will be further enriched by the creation of an education campus, which is integral to the Authority’s vision for the precinct’s future.
“The education campus will be a core component of Sydney Olympic Park’s sporting and creative hub, defining the town’s identity and linking community with industry,” Minister Nori said.
“In time Sydney Olympic Park’s education campus will have all the necessary township conveniences and will be located close to one of the world’s great urban parklands,” Minister Nori added.
Ten sites are being listed for sale by leasehold (99 years) title to commercial education and training providers who share the Authority’s vision in developing a world class “education campus” within a new township. Seven sites are available for educational facilities and three sites for student accommodation.
Under the tender arrangements, educational organisations will be able to either build, own and operate a facility, or occupy a portion of a purpose-built facility by leasing from a third party. Organisations that have already seen the enormous potential for education and training at Sydney Olympic Park include:
* Sport Knowledge Australia (SKA) – Australia’s first international centre of excellence in sports science and sports management. SKA is building on Australia’s existing capacities to develop world class staffing profiles, facilities and programs. (www.sportedu.org)
* Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) - CBA is developing a major facility in the town centre that will see more than 1,200 employees relocated to the Park in 2007. The environmentally designed building will include a major new training facility for the Bank.
* Australian College of Physical Education (ACPE) – the College’s continuing growth in enrolments confirms the desirability of Sydney Olympic Park as a destination for education and training.
Other organisations at Sydney Olympic Park providing education and training services include the University Admissions Centre, the NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) and the International Tennis Academy Gold Coast.
The creation of an education campus at Sydney Olympic Park will make an enormous contribution to reinforcing the legacy of the 2000 Olympic Games by providing social, economic, and environmental benefits for future generations.
