The Sydney Olympic Park Authority has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Scouts Australia New South Wales that will see the two organisations working together to engage scouts and young people in general with Sydney Olympic Park’s unmatched array of leisure facilities and fun activities.
The first opportunity will be this weekend (Saturday 8 October, 2005), as part of the popular Kids in the Park program, when young people can become a ‘Scout for a Day’.
Based in the Overflow Park, at Sydney Olympic Park from 10am-3pm, there’ll be a range of free activities on offer for children aged 5years and up.
“It’s a great opportunity for young people to experience the adventure of Scouting. Kids can join us at our Scout Campsite and make their own Billy tea or damper, try solar cooking or perhaps take a ride on the flying fox,” Scouts Australia NSW Chief Commissioner, Graeme Fordham said.
With a worldwide membership of more than 28 million, Chief Executive Officer for Sydney Olympic Park Authority, Brian Newman welcomed the new agreement with Scouts New South Wales, saying it will support the Authority’s ongoing efforts to engage young people with the precinct.
“Scouts is a great way to learn new skills while enjoying the outdoors, and we believe that Sydney Olympic Park is the ideal place for this to occur. We hope that this weekend will establish a successful start to a long term partnership with Scouts NSW here at the Park,” Mr Newman said.
