The recent rain in Sydney's west has attracted some unusual creatures to explore the more populated areas of Sydney Olympic Park. Long-neck turtles have been spotted roaming the pathways and cycle paths in search of suitable places to lay their eggs.
Spring through to early summer is the breeding season for the turtles, and with the rains they often come out of their usual wetlands, looking for a more suitable place for laying eggs.
Motorists and cyclists using the Park have been asked to look out for the turtles, which are dark in colour and blend in easily with their surroundings.
In previous years the long-neck turtles have been known to frequent paths and walkways near the Newington Armory, Lake Belvedere and Bennelong Pond.
