Parramatta and Sydney Olympic Park partnership to build enterprise

Parramatta City Council and the Sydney Olympic Park Authority today signed a Statement of Co-operation that will lead to greater economic development and improved services to the region.

The agreement identifies a range of regional planning, economic development, marketing, tourism, recreation, planning, education and environmental initiatives that will be the subject of cooperative development.

Key amongst the initiatives will be jointly promoting the establishment and marketing of the Westmead to Burwood Economic Zone as a major sub regional economic, environmental and social development 'catchment'.

Parramatta City Council Lord Mayor, Paul Garrard and Sydney Olympic Park Authority CEO, Brian Newman were equally enthusiastic in their support of a joint approach to improving opportunities in the region.

"Parramatta City and Sydney Olympic Park can achieve much more in the future by working together to further specific opportunities as a partnership," said Lord Mayor Paul Garrard.

"These are exciting times in the development of both areas, and it makes sense that we do it together as a regional initiative," Brian Newman added.

The two bodies will work together to:

  • Improve all commuter and recreational transport services, including the ferry, Transitway and cycle tracks
  • Jointly market Parramatta and Sydney Olympic Park to potential investors at a domestic and international level
  • Explore opportunities to develop a joint public event that will link the City of Parramatta and Sydney Olympic Park, as well as identify other  entertainment, arts and tourism initiatives
  • Share knowledge and expertise on environmental technology towards improving regional environmental outcomes, especially Parramatta River/Duck Creek catchment improvements.
