Novotel and Hotel Ibis
The Novotel/Ibis hotel complex at Sydney Olympic Park has established new ESD standards for high rise hotel accommodation which have prioritised the conservation of energy and water and minimise waste generation wherever possible.
The hotel's management has formed an innovative partnership to promote the work of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). partnership with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) $1/bed rental goes to WWF.
Energy
The Novotel/Ibis purchases 100% 'Green Power', saving an estimated 1200 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
The roof of the hotel contains one of Australia's largest solar hot water systems, consisting of more than 400m2 of solar collectors.
Materials
- Minimal use of PVC - marmolium for wet area flooring, vitreous clay pipers for in-ground stormwater, copper pipes for potable water
- Use of low toxic adhesives
- Use of low VOC paints and finishes
- Greenfreeze HC refrigerants used in bar fridges of the hotel.
Water
- Use of recycled water for toilet flushing and landscape irrigation via connection to the Sydney Olympic Park's WRAMS system
- 50% reduction in potable water from standard hotels.
- 50% reduction of baths/floor
Design features
- external shading of north, east and west orientated windows.
- windows (manufactured from recycled glass) linked to the air conditioning system that automatically shuts off when a window is opened.
- Design of Hotel resulted in an energy saving of approximately 40% (compared with traditionally designed hotels).
Waste
- Construction waste recycling: 88% achieved
