The Validation of Bioremediation Trials at Wilson Park

Abstract
Between 1954 and 1974, the site of Wilson Park was occupied by the Petroleum and Chemical Corporation Australia Limited (PACCAL). This company manufactured town gas on the site through the thermal cracking of crude oil. A by-product of this process was a tarry sludge which was stored in pits located adjacent to the Parramatta River. The cleanup of this site was undertaken by the Olympic Coordination Authority.

The following paper briefly describes the site history of Wilson Park, the bioremediation trials and project stages involved in the cleanup of the site.
