Almost half a million school students visit Sydney Olympic Park each year to participate in programs, compete in sporting carnivals, attend events and exhibitions and learn through curriculum-based education programs.

Sydney Olympic Park works closely with a range of partners to provide quality school education programs and to develop a world-class education campus within the precinct. Unique partnership opportunities are available within our key education areas: sports, arts, health and environmental sustainability.

The Youth Eco Summit proved to be a huge hit with students and teachers and planning for next year’s event has already started, building on lessons learned from this year’s event.

2000 students from 45 schools across Sydney and beyond participated in YES, joined by 27 schools from regional NSW who took part via videoconferencing, to participate in a wide range of sustainability and environmental workshops and seminars.

The event made full use of the vast, heritage-listed Newington Armory complex, with the Armory Theatre used for seminars (including schools participating via videoconferencing), the Armory amphitheatre used for open-air workshops, the Ausgrid Education Centre for sustainable energy demonstrations and the Armory’s open spaces for a diverse range of programs.

Ausgrid

Ausgrid and Sydney Olympic Park Authority have a long standing partnership to deliver renewable energy education programs at the historic Newington Armory through the Ausgrid Education Centre.Sydney Olympic Park has an ongoing commitment to energy conservation and the use of renewable energy at the Park.  As Ausgrid has a focus on providing sustainable energy, this partnership is an excellent fit.

The Ausgrid Education Centre is a new hub for school excursions where students gain a hands-on appreciation of renewable energy sources such as solar, thermal, wind, hydro, tidal and biomass. These programs help students meet key syllabus outcomes in Science, but more importantly enable them to make informed environmental choices into the future.
