In these interactive HSIE excursions, students in Years 1 and 2 explore Sydney Olympic Park’s wetlands and forest. They learn about human impacts and caring for the environment.

Wet & Dry Environments – HSIE/Science & Technology

Wet and Dry Environments is one of our most popular primary school programs, encouraging students to actively care for the environment.

In this field trip excursion, students explore the mangroves and dry forests of Bicentennial Park at Sydney Olympic Park.

This outdoor exploration gives students an opportunity to consider:

  • the growth and features of living things
  • food chains
  • life cycles.

Using field equipment, students actively investigate different environments. They search out the creatures that live under the mud or camouflaged among the eucalypt forest. They consider the positive and negative effects of human interaction with these environments.

This educational school trip to Sydney Olympic Park supports the Wet and Dry Environments Stage 1 Science and Technology/HSIE unit.

The Need for Shelter – HSIE

This primary school program for Stage 1 students is an inspiring hands-on exploration of Sydney Olympic Park.

On this outdoor school excursion of Bicentennial Park, students investigate various environments to see how animals and humans live together.

Students use key indicators from the parklands’ environment and its animals to identify, examine and describe shelters. During the field trip, they explore what affects the survival skills of animals and humans, including:

  • life cycles
  • species modification
  • human interaction.

Bicentennial Park, is the perfect venue for outdoor school trips. The 100 hectare natural heritage site has an important wetland ecosystem and 40 hectares of parklands to discover.

Kids Care – HSIE

Kids Care is one of our popular outdoor primary school programs. It encourages students to actively protect and conserve the natural environment.

In this field trip excursion, students observe woodlands, mangroves and ponds of Bicentennial Park at Sydney Olympic Park. They consider human impacts on animals and their habitats, and discuss ways to nurture these environments.

Field trip activities include:

  • mangrove forest investigation
  • water sampling
  • bug identification
  • bird watching
  • observation from a tower.

 What’s Alive – HSIE

This field trip to Sydney Olympic Park helps primary school students observe different animal and plant types in a safe environment.

On this excursion of Bicentennial Park, students will:

  • investigate a freshwater pond, mangrove wetland and dry forest area
  • observe and identify plant and animal types, and their different functions and habitats
  • explore concepts of seasonal cycles, plant reproduction and food webs.

This educational school field trip gives students an opportunity to develop their appreciation of conservation and environmental care.
