Jason Project - Resilient Planet

This primary school program for Stage 3 science students is a hands-on investigation of Sydney Olympic Park’s mangrove environment.

Students become researchers as they investigate Badu Mangroves in Bicentennial Park. This protected ecosystem has undergone enormous changes in the last 100 years.

The ‘researchers’ take a field trip to the mangrove environment to:

  • Test water quality
  • Collect data
  • study and observe the health and viability of the mangrove environment.

Students then discuss management strategies for the mangroves. They investigate the pressures of human needs and wants over time. They see that they able to make changes for future generations to protect and conserve biodiversity.

This educational school trip to Sydney Olympic Park supports National Geographic’s Jason Project – Resilient Planet Stage 3 unit.

Jason Project – Infinite Potential

Stage 3 science students explore how to make, transform and use renewable energy to power our world in this primary school program.

At Sydney Olympic Park’s Ausgrid Education Centre, students witness renewable energy in action, as  the building runs on solar power and feeds energy into the power grid.

Students then conduct a critical analysis of renewable power options available, including:

  • hands-on testing of solar panels and wind turbines
  • water wheels and an ‘energy bike’.

Students collect primary data from their own experiments to help them design a model of a renewable energy home.

This educational school trip supports National Geographic’s Jason Project – Infinite Potential Stage 3 unit and links to the Science unit, Physical Phenomena, and HSIE components of Ecological Sustainability.
