Wetland Education and Training Workshop:
‘Wetland Ecology – Human Impacts and Management’
Friday 29th October, 2010
You are invited to attend this unique professional development opportunity to enhance and update your knowledge on wetland ecosystems. The program will start with a contextual overview of the Sydney Olympic Park site, past land uses, remediation, current management and future development. This presentation will be delivered by Dr Marianne Sheumack who was involved in the remediation of the park prior to the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
You will then hear from leading wetland scientists about the biology, geomorphology and ecological significance of estuarine wetlands, what puts them at risk and management strategies to protect them.
This session will be followed by a walking tour lead by Wetland Manager, Dr Swapan Paul, encompassing observations and insights into the management of the local Badu wetlands here at Sydney Olympic Park.
The afternoon workshops will consist of two concurrent sessions – one session will focus on the use of field equipment and the teaching of fieldwork techniques used at Sydney Olympic Park. The other session will focus on the excursion programs and activities that students would undertake on an excursion to the Sydney Olympic Park wetlands. This day will also provide a great opportunity for you to network with other teachers.
