Excursion Times: 9.30-11.30am or 12.30- 2.30pm

For an action packed experience, combine your excursion with a PDHPE activity to enhance student's physical fitness and increase sports skills! Specially designed kits with suggested activity instructions and support equipment such as balls, hoops, witches hats, parachutes, team sashes etc are available for loan. This self-service extension option is FREE. For more information, enquire while booking.

Paralympian Jayme Paris meets students and signs autographs at Get Active DayGet Active Day 

KLA: PDHPE

Location: The Overflow.

Description: Get Active Day provides K-6 students a fun day of physical activities that are dedicated to achieving PDHPE outcomes. It is an action-packed day of basic fundamental movement skills in the morning followed by fun games, races and competitions in the afternoon. The program has been developed in partnership with the Australian College of Physical Education, is delivered by leading sports instructors and all equipment is supplied.

Dates: Last two weeks of Terms 1, 2 and 3. Last three weeks of Term 4. 

Duration: 10am-2pm

COGs - Our Place

KLA: Cross-curricula

Location: Bicentennial Park Field Studies Centre

Description: This excursion allows students to actively explore the special features of the park and develop an understanding of the term environment. The park is home for many animals and plants and the students will gain an insight on how to care for the parklands and places that are special to them.  Students will compare built and natural environments looking at simple design aspects; discover the past and present uses of the park and how these sites are utilised by the public. Students will assess safety features of the park and critique the rules and regulations in regards to their safe play. As part of the excursion students will look at ways in which the park is promoting recycling. This will include observing management strategies put in place for rubbish, solar powered pumps and recycled water use.

Duration: 2 hours

COGs - Local Places

KLA: Cross-curricula

Location: Bicentennial Park Field Studies Centre 

Description: Local Places provides direct experiences and interactions with the parkland environment. Students will gain an understanding of the interrelated needs and wants of humans and animals to the park. As the students assess and discuss the features of the environment they will be encouraged to take an active role in developing ideas and plans that could benefit humans and animals. Through this awareness, their role as active citizen helps them understand and aim to provide for a sustainable future. Students will look at how safe and healthy play spaces in local areas and in schools are achieved.


During the course of the excursion students will investigate built and natural features, woodlands, playgrounds, a wet environment and heritage features of the site to discover how the land has changed over time. This program facilitates information on health & safety, pollution, design techniques and maintaining a balance between built and natural features with in the parklands. Children will also assess safety features of the park and critique the rules in regards to their safe play.

Duration: 2 hours

Wet and Dry Environments 

KLA: HSIE / Science & Technology

Location: Bicentennial Park Field Studies Centre 

Description: This program highlights the need to look after a variety of natural environments and encourages students to develop positive attitudes and take action in caring for environments such as their own backyard and beyond. Hands-on experiences allow students to investigate mangrove and dry forests, focusing on the growth and features of living things, food chains and life cycles. Using field equipment such as hand lenses, looking tubes, investigation brushes, identification charts, puppetry and role play students investigate bark, rocks and snorkel roots, scented leaves and flowers, and search out the creatures that exist on and under the mud or camouflaged amongst the branches in the Eucalypt forest.

The program also investigates the growth and change cycles in plants, animals and the human community. Students experience a combination of environments within the built and natural areas of Bicentennial Park and consider the positive and negative effects of human interaction within these environments.

The Need For Shelter

KLA: HSIE

Location: Bicentennial Park Field Studies Centre 

Description: The Need for Shelter program provides students with the opportunity to investigate natural and built environments and discover how animals and humans live together. Students identify, examine and describe shelters, using key indicators from the environment and from the animals within the parklands. The hands-on, student centered activities immerse the students in their environment and allow them to explore how life cycles, modifications of species and human interactions affect the survival skills of animals and humans. Through their natural curiosity and the use of field equipment, students are able to discover first hand where, how and why organisms seek shelter and how human can mimic these strategies in our everyday life. Students are involved in role plays, story telling, exploring the natural environment and more.

Duration: 2 hours

Kids Care

KLA: Science & Technology

Location: Bicentennial Park Field Studies Centre 

Description: Kids Care is a hands-on excursion that provides students with the opportunity to discover and inquire, propose and resolve issues and problems associated with the environment. Students conduct an investigation of woodland, mangrove and pond environments and discuss ways of caring for these environments.

Students will learn about the positive and negative effects of human interaction with these environments. Some of the activities include a mangrove forest investigation, water sampling, bug identification, bird watching, tower observation and more. This memorable excursion is also a valuable learning experience. The program combines the use of appropriate questioning, experiential activities and observations of the natural environment, addressing syllabus outcomes that are best reached in an outdoor environment.

What’s Alive?

KLA: Science & Technology

Location: Bicentennial Park Field Studies Centre 

Description: What’s Alive provides students with the opportunity to investigate a freshwater pond environment, a mangrove wetland and a dry forest area. Students use their senses to observe, identify and name different types of plants and animals whilst learning to recognize the different habitats in which they live. Students are encouraged to look at the functions of plants and animals and how each differs. Seasonal cycles, plant reproduction and food webs are also explored. Students have the opportunity to identify the need for conservation and develop their sense of environmental care. The excursion allows for exploration in a safe and supportive environment designed for discovery and consolidation of knowledge and skills.

School Sports Program

KLA: Sport

Location: Sports Centre, Hockey Centre, Sports Halls

Description: Students participate in a program consisting of two or three sports conducted by qualified and experienced coaches. Sports offered: Badminton, Basketball, Floorball, Futsal (Indoor Soccer), Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Netball, Strength and Conditioning, Table Tennis and Volleyball.

Duration: 2 or 3 hours

Cost: $13.00 per student.

Weekly Sport

KLA: Sport

Location: Sports Centre, Hockey Centre, Sports Halls

Description: The three venues are available for schools to hire at an off-peak rate. Sports that can be played include Badminton, Basketball, Floorball, Futsal, Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Netball, Strength and Conditioning, Table Tennis and Volleyball.

Duration: as required

Cost: From $32 per hour
