A world of marketing opportunities

Did you know Sydney Olympic Park:

  1. Has more than 90 organisations now located on site
  2. Is one of Sydney's premier corporate events destinations
  3. Is the NSW home of sport with over 50 sports played at the precinct
  4. Has more than 35km of cycle paths, and 425 hectares of parklands
  5. Is Sydney's best place for recreational and school holiday activities
Sydney Olympic Park is one of Australia's premier tourist destinations, attracting more than 8.2 million visitors in 2006 alone and now marketers and event promoters can get a piece of the action.

In a first for the Park, marketers can now 'buy in' to the vast array of marketing opportunities available within the park, from traditional avenues such as street banners and branded events, through to e-marketing opportunities capitalising on the Park's high-traffic website and proprietary mailing lists of visitors and corporate clientele.

More unusual marketing opportunities are available as well, such as entertaining your clients during major events utilising the Park' event extensions, or perhaps personalising a Segway with a sponsor's message or promotion is the way to go.

Whatever the message, promotion or event, Sydney Olympic Park is the place to be and now you can be part of it.

Willy Wonka Wonderland at Telstra Stadium

"Greetings to you, the lucky finder of this golden ticket!" was the intriguing invitation sent to 60 event industry affiliates to attend a mystery function at Telstra Stadium.

What transpired was a unique chocolate-themed tour led by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory character Willy Wonka to showcase the premier international sporting arena's new catering and functions arm.

Between a sumptuous luncheon and lessons in how to fire a great brulee, write in chocolate and make Bombe Alaska, attendees were introduced to the business's recent ownership change, which has brought a new name and a new outlook.

Stadium Australia Group, the owner and operator of Telstra Stadium, recently successfully acquired the catering business from Sodexho Alliance, a French-owned multinational.

The business now trades as Telstra Stadium Catering, bringing the catering business in-house as part of Stadium Australia Group.

"The change is very exciting news for all our patrons, stakeholders and clients, as the catering business will now be more integrated in the overall Telstra Stadium business," said Functions and Events Development Manager, Wendy Frizelle.

"Telstra Stadium is easily recognized as Australia's leading sporting venue, but it is also one of Sydney's premier function and conference venues."

21st Annual ARIA Awards at Acer Arena

The Australian Recording Industry Association held their 21st Annual ARIA Awards at Acer Arena on Sunday 28 October 2007.

For the sixth consecutive year, the ARIA Awards have been held at the magnificent Acer Arena. Since 2002, when the ARIA's moved to Acer Arena, it has won high praise from the music industry, fans and the producers of the Network Ten broadcast.

This prestigious red carpet event is undoubtedly one of Acer Arena's major events. The whole venue was utilised for the event with dressing rooms turned into production offices and the Grand Ballroom was converted into the Media Lounge. The event was broken into three segments: red carpet and activities, main awards ceremony and the post show party.

On an event like this Acer Arena never says no! Ensuring that the event is bigger than the year before, the food and beverage service is an important part of the evening, with a menu tasting held in the lead-up to the event to devise a menu that can be served to all 3000 VIP's on different levels out of 4 kitchens at the same time.

Acer Arena received thumbs up despite adverse weather conditions which needed to be taken into consideration for the red carpet activities. The strong winds ensured confetti was blown further away than anticipated!

"With Acer Arena the team continues to defy gravity and have continued each year to exceed our expectations, which is exceptional when the client refuses to settle for second best", said Mark Pope, Event Producer of the 2007 Aria Awards.

Team Cuisine - The teambuilding solution where you eat the results!

Team Cuisine offers a non physical solution to corporate team-building, by combining the thrill of cooking and dining with a competitive edge!

As guests arrive in the production kitchen, they are welcomed by the Executive Chef and they are informed it is they who will be cooking for the evening. The group is then broken into three teams and are required to devise their own menu from a cryptic box of ingredients. Each team work under the guidance of one of the Master Chefs to coach the team (and take bribes for handy hints required along the way).

Once each course has been served, the Executive Chef asks the group to score on various levels, and a winning team is announced at the end of the night.

Team Cuisine operates from the main production kitchen in Telstra Stadium and is suitable for 15 to 55 guests.

Sydney Showground launches new logo

Sydney Showground unveiled its new logo on 1 November. The new brand reflects Sydney Showground as a key player in Australia's corporate events marketplace and it also marks a new era for the multi-award-winning venue.

The fresh new logo features a sleek graphic of Sydney Showground's signature venue, the Dome, one of the largest clear-span venues in Australia. A series of purple arcs radiating away from the Dome's pinnacle in a ripple effect represent Sydney Showground's reputation for staging events that 'make waves'.

The contemporary logo also aims to reflect Sydney Showground's growing professional and sophisticated clientele and follows its recent million dollar venue refurbishments and steady infrastructure injection into the precinct.

"The new look goes hand-in-hand with the upgrades to our venues. It represents a move away from the carnival persona of the old logo towards a look which will breathe new life into our brand and more accurately reflect the values of the corporate event planners, decision makers, inbound tour and event operators and agents who choose to hold their event at one of Sydney Showground's 20 unique venues," said Kim-Laura Paterson, General Manager Event Sales, Sydney Showground.

Sydney Showground is approaching its first decade at the Sydney Olympic Park site and its diverse collection of venues play host to gala dinners, conferences, exhibitions, concerts, film shoots, cocktail functions, product launches, trade fairs and sporting events.
