ARTEXPRESS at the Armory returns to Sydney Olympic Park

This year’s largest metropolitan ARTEXPRESS exhibition will open at Sydney Olympic Park’s Armory Gallery on Tuesday 6 March. The FREE exhibition of 2011 HSC Visual Arts students’ major works will run daily from 10am-4pm until Sunday 29 April (inclusive).

The eighth annual ARTEXPRESS at the Armory will showcase more than 530 individual pieces of art created by 69 students from schools across NSW.

Assembled by respected curator Danielle Gullotta, the works featured in this year’s exhibition will be linked by the theme Tracing the landscape: impact and habitation.

“This year, ARTEXPRESS at the Armory will explore the natural, the sublime and the built environment, and ultimately comment on society’s impact on landscapes through urban expansion, industry and science,” said Danielle Gullotta.

Danielle added that the theme for her first ARTEXPRESS at the Armory display is evident in some shape or form in all of the chosen works, which illustrate the students’ responses to the landscapes they inhabit either physically or imaginatively.

The 2012 collection will span a broad range of expressive media forms including ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture and photo-media. Because of the unique space available at Sydney Olympic Park’s heritage-listed Newington Armory venue, ARTEXPRESS at the Armory 2012 will boast complete bodies of works by many students.

Visitors will have the chance to vote for their favourite artwork, with a ‘People’s Choice Award’ to be presented this year. The winning artist and one voter will each receive a digital camera valued at $1,000.

ARTEXPRESS at the Armory 2012 will also feature FREE Curator Talks from noon on Sunday 25 March and 15 April, as well as a range of kids’ workshops at the Armory Gallery...
