Free Australia Day celebrations at Sydney Olympic Park

A true-blue salute to our great southern land will take place at beautiful Bicentennial Park on Australia Day, when a program of FREE family entertainment is sure to make it a ripper of a day!

With sheep shearing, whip cracking, sheep dog trials, an animal farm, pony and amusement rides, face-painting, kids’ acts, Indigenous dance, modern Aussie rock, a bush band, an eclectic line-up of cultural dance and music from across the world and a fireworks display... Sydney’s biggest playground will serve as the ideal setting for a cultural extravaganza on Thursday 26 January 2012!

An Aboriginal dance ceremony and Acknowledgement of Country service at 2pm will start an extraordinary main-stage entertainment program which includes a new wildlife character show that’s sure to leave kids in stitches, an 1800s themed colonial dance performance by Australian Heritage Dancers, a modern Australiana-themed dance act by the Whiz Kidz and a mesmerising acoustic performance by Aussie singer-songwriter Kym Campbell.

The Cedars of Lebanon will also take the stage at 5pm before the beautiful vocal harmonies of the Ethiopian Gospel Choir will sound at 5.30pm. Sydney Cook Island Dancers will also perform an energetic traditional Polynesian drum and dance act and the good ol’ Aussie sounds of the Stringybark bush band is guaranteed to excite.

The Official Ceremony will commence at 6pm, when radio presenter and Australia Day Ambassador Robyn Moore will deliver what is sure to be an inspirational address. The ceremony will also include a Local Citizens of the Year awards presentation and a speech by Auburn’s 2012 Local Citizen of the Year.

From 8:00pm, an Aussie rock covers show by Endless Summer will fire-up the crowd before a spectacular fireworks finale to the celebrations at 8.50pm.
