Notice to media covering the NRL Grand Final

Sydney Olympic Park Authority wishes to remind reporters and media commentators that the 2012 NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final will be held at ANZ Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park – not in Homebush which is a separate (neighbouring) suburb.

Sydney Olympic Park was officially declared a suburb by the NSW Geographic Names Board in 2009. Incorrect reference to the venue causes confusion and may lead commuters to disembark incorrectly (especially via trains) in the wrong suburb when travelling to the event.

NRL Grand Final ticketholders are encouraged to leave their cars at home on Sunday 30 September, and those who do not need to travel to Olympic Park are encouraged to avoid the area. Tickets to the game include FREE travel on public transport to-and-from the event on CityRail trains, Sydney Olympic Park Major Event Buses, regular Sydney Buses, and Liverpool to Parramatta T-way Buses.

Those planning to drive should aim to get to Olympic Park early to allow for traffic delays and large crowds travelling to ANZ Stadium. With likely delays on Homebush Bay Drive, motorists are advised to use the following alternative routes:

North: Through Top Ryde, take Victoria Rd, then Silverwater Rd and Holker St
South: Turn onto Parramatta Rd, then onto Hill Rd
West: Turn onto Silverwater Rd, then onto Holker St or Hill Rd
East: Take Parramatta Rd, then Birnie Ave or Hill Rd

If driving along Victoria Rd consider taking Silverwater Rd then Holker St

Arguably the most exciting pre-game entertainment program to-date, the 2012 NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final will feature live performances by US sensation ‘Good Charlotte’ and popular Irish band ‘The Script.’

Ticketholders are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy a myriad of carnival amusements within a specially-created Grand Final Experience precinct contained by more than two kilometres of temporary fencing around ANZ Stadium. Open only to ticketholders from 10am, the Grand Final Experience precinct will feature Rugby League skills clinics, carnival rides, roving performers, live music, food stalls, Grand Final team bars, a merchandise supercentre and more.

In addition, Sydney Olympic Park Authority will present FREE entertainment in and around Cathy Freeman Park (opposite ANZ Stadium) and at Fig Grove (near the Aquatic Centre). The Cold Play Show (cover band) will perform live on-stage at Cathy Freeman Park, where a bar area will also operate. On Olympic Boulevard and at Fig Grove, more than 20 internationally-themed food stalls will tempt taste-buds and a variety of cafés and restaurants on Dawn Fraser Avenue will open several hours before the 5pm Grand Final kick-off.

10.00am: Grand Final Experience precinct open (exclusive to Grand Final ticketholders)
11.45am: Gates open at ANZ Stadium and start of FREE entertainment at Cathy Freeman Park and Fig Grove
12.05pm: VB NSW Cup Grand Final kick-off - Newtown Jets v Balmain Ryde Eastwood Tigers
2.00pm: Toyota Cup Grand Final kick-off - Canberra Raiders v Wests Tigers
5.00pm: NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final kick-off - Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs v Melbourne Storm
