School’s out for Summer and the fun is on at Sydney Olympic Park!

Arguably the best Kids in the Park season of the year, summer 2012-13 will see more than five weeks worth of memories made and kids entertained at the official home of the BIGGEST range of school holiday activities of any location in NSW… Sydney Olympic Park!

From the Apia International Sydney – Kids’ Day with FREE event entry for junior tennis fans on Monday 7 January, to FREE Movies by the Boulevard and FREE Australia Day Celebrations at beautiful Bicentennial Park, the Kids in the Park summer 2012-13 activities line-up features annual attractions and familiar favourites EVERY DAY of the school holidays. Sydney Olympic Park will operate the program from Saturday 22 December 2012 – Monday 28 January 2013.

Activities NEW to the Kids in the Park program will also debut this summer, including Tramp to Ramp @ Monster on 28 December and 4, 11, 18 and 25 January. Super-fun for skateboarders, BMX and scooter-riders aged 5 years and older, the coach-instructed program will ensure kids have the aerial skills to execute wicked action sports stunts (safely)!

Participants will get to launch harder, fly higher, spin faster and land softer using Monster’s massive one-of-a-kind foam pit and purposely-designed trampoline. Located on the Grand Parade, Monster Skatepark is among the most bustling venues at Sydney Olympic Park. The cost to Tramp to Ramp @ Monster is $30 per person and bookings are essential.

Kids aged 3-12 will also find a lofty adventure on FREE kids activities including Clue Trail – ‘Flying High.’ Using a map to collect the clues and solve the message on the elevated Brickpit Ring Walk, the self-guided activity has options for readers and for non-readers, and will run from 9.30am-4.30pm every day of the holidays (except 24 and 25 December).

As excitement builds for the 25th Anniversary of Bicentennial Park, families will have the chance to help make history this summer by taking part in a giant ‘25’ human formation to be photographed from a helicopter on Australia Day! Other school holiday attractions to be held at the iconic Sydney parkland include Cookies and Craft at Lilies on the Park Café on most Tuesdays and Thursdays in January, and learning the art of kite-flying during Kites and Cake at Lilies on 9, 16 and 23 January. Both activities are GOOD-VALUE at only $19 per child.

Designed to include something for all ages and interests, Kids in the Park summer 2012-13 will also feature a myriad of Writing Workshops presented by award-winning author, Bernard Cohen. With seven workshops to choose from – including the Kids in the Park Special that will end with a FREE Bicentennial Park Anniversary gift for each child –Kids in the Park is set to spur Australia’s next wave of imaginative poets as well as fiction and non-fiction writers.

Creative kids aged 9-16 will also love whiling away the hours this summer at Newington Armory, where a three-day Digital Filmmaking Workshop will be held from 14-16 January. With the guidance of Cinewest experts, a short film created by participants of the workshop was recently selected for inclusion in an international children’s film festival in Spain!

As Australia’s premier precinct for quality sports venues, Sydney Olympic Park will host thousands of athletes from 30 different countries during the Australian Youth Olympic Festival from 16-20 January. With FREE entry for spectators at the Hockey Centre, Athletic Centre and various other venues, the Festival is sure to inspire budding Aussie Olympians.

The next generation of gymnasts will have the chance to learn the basics of the sport from 10am-12pm on 23 January, when Gymnastics – Gym Fun workshops will be held at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre for 9-12 year olds. Mini Gym clinics will also operate on 21, 22, 24 and 25 January for boys and girls aged between 5-8 years, and for the ultimate GOOD-VALUE fun, Trampoline and other Fun Stuff costs only $16.50 per child aged 5-12.

Across the Park at the Aquatic Centre – where it is always a comfy 26 degrees – Splasher’s Water Playground will be open every day of the holidays (except 25 December), with water slides, bubble-jets and huge inflatables for only $6 per child entry! Swimming Lessons and Diving Clinics will also operate throughout the summer holidays, and a NEW adrenalin-filled outdoor attraction of high-ropes courses up in the trees on the Aquatic Centre grounds will test physical and mental reserves when the Urban Jungle Adventure Park opens in January
