ARTEXPRESS at the Armory 2013 - FEEE exhibition at Sydney Olympic Park

This year’s largest metropolitan ARTEXPRESS exhibitionwill open to the public at Sydney Olympic Park’s Armory Gallery on Tuesday 5 March. The FREE exhibition of 2012 HSC Visual Arts students’ major works will run daily from 10am-4pm until Sunday 28 April (inclusive).

The ninth annual ARTEXPRESS at the Armory display will showcase hundreds of art-pieces created by 67 students from schools across NSW.

Assembled for the second year in a row by respected curator Danielle Gullotta, the works featured in this year’s exhibition will be linked by the theme Figure attraction: interaction and reaction.

“ARTEXPRESS at the Armory 2013 will explore how the human figure can be a metaphor to communicate ideas. It will examine how we interact and react with others, society and the environment we live in,” said Danielle Gullota.

“This year’s display is genuinely thought-provoking and indicative of the great young talent we have in NSW. Students have created bodies of work that relate to their personal experiences and their family connections. Through their art, the students have commented on how they interpret their role in the world and all the issues associated with navigating a pathway into adulthood,” added Ms Gullota.

The 2013 collection will span a broad range of expressive media forms including painting, photo media, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, graphic design, documented forms, textiles and fibre, ceramics and time-based forms.

Due to the unique space available at Sydney Olympic Park’s heritage-listed Newington Armory venue, ARTEXPRESS at the Armory 2013 will boast the complete bodies of works by many students.

Visitors will have the chance to vote for their favourite artwork, with a ‘People’s Choice Award’ to be presented this year. The winning artist and one voter will each receive a digital camera valued at $1,000.

ARTEXPRESS at the Armory 2013 will also feature FREE Curator Talks from noon on Sunday 24 March and 14 April, as well as a range of FREE kids’ workshops during the Easter school holidays at the Armory Gallery...
