Family fun as Sydney’s biggest free summer alfresco movie festival turns 13

Minister for Sport and Recreation, Gabrielle Upton, announced Sydney Olympic Park’s iconic Movie’s by the Boulevard summer outdoor movie program will be returning for its thirteenth season.
Minister Upton said Sydney Olympic Park’s summer outdoor film festival provides outstanding family-friendly value entertainment.
“Movies by the Boulevard serves up a feast of eleven feature films, with something for everyone, culminating in the ‘Short Soup’ international short film festival” said Ms Upton.
“There’s the high octane superhero thrills of The Wolverine, Iron Man 3 and Thor–The Dark World, to great kid’s fun with Turbo, Despicable Me 2 and Monster’s University, plus movies as varied as Life of Pi and The Great Gatsby.”
Held at Cathy Freeman Park on Olympic Boulevard at Sydney Olympic Park, Movies by the Boulevard 2014 will operate on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from the 2nd-5th of January, 9th-12th of January and 16th-19th January. Free kids’ activities will be available from 5pm on Friday and Saturday family blockbuster nights.
“While food and beverages will be available for purchase at food stalls at Cathy Freeman Park from 6.00pm or from a wide variety of cafés and restaurants across the Park, families are welcome to bring packed picnics as well as cushions, rugs or low chairs” Ms Upton said.
Ms Upton added “Outdoor cinema with friends and family is a quintessential Sydney summer experience and Movies by the Boulevard provides that experience for free, with hundreds of thousands of mums, dads and kids making the most of the summer’s best free movies over the past 13 years.
“After a hectic Christmas holiday season, Movies by the Boulevard provides a great way for the whole family to sit back, relax and enjoy a great summer movie festival,” Ms Upton said.
