Notice to media covering the Bledisloe Cup at ANZ Stadium
14 Aug 2014
Following the NSW Waratahs’ recent Super Rugby Final win, Sydney Olympic Park will host another huge rugby event this weekend, when the Qantas Wallabies will play the All Blacks at ANZ Stadium on Saturday 16 August.
The trans-Tasman match is sure to be a thriller with the two rival teams to compete in the first match of the 2014 Bledisloe Cup just two weeks after the NSW Waratahs beat the Canterbury Crusaders in an epic Super Rugby Final.
Sydney Olympic Park landmarks will be bathed in gold lights from 5pm and there will be loads of FREE entertainment from 4pm across the precinct to excite fans before kick-off.
Ticketholders are strongly advised to leave the car at home and opt for public transport, which is included in the cost of the tickets.
Those planning to drive despite advice should pre-book parking for a flat rate of $25 via the Sydney Olympic Park website. With heavy traffic expected on Homebush Bay Drive, motorists should also consider the following alternative driving routes:
• From the North: Through Top Ryde, take Victoria Road, then Silverwater Road and turn into Holker Street.
• From the South: From Centenary Drive, turn onto Parramatta Road then take either Birnie Avenue or Hill Road.
• From the West: Turn onto Silverwater Road then onto Hill Road.
• From the East: Take Parramatta Road, then Birnie Avenue or Hill Road.
If you are driving along Victoria Road consider taking Silverwater Road then Holker Street.
Pre-game entertainment will be family-friendly from 4pm at Cathy Freeman Park (opposite ANZ Stadium), where fans will find live music, and be treated to interviews with current and classic Wallabies. Gold Brigade ticket holders can collect their t-shirt near the bar at Cathy Freeman Park.
A myriad of internationally-themed food stalls will be available, in addition to extended trading hours across Sydney Olympic Park's many bars, restaurants and cafés.
Fans are encouraged to avoid the rush and stay after the game at Sydney Olympic Park, where there will be lots of post-match festivities and food options. Last buses will depart at 11pm and the last direct train will depart at midnight.
The match will kick-off at 8pm at ANZ Stadium. Gates will open at 6pm.
