School's out for summer

It’s heating up at Sydney Olympic Park, with the biggest Kids in the Park season of the year set for summer 2014-15. With more than five weeks of action-packed fun on every day of the school holidays, Sydney Olympic Park will once again be home to the biggest range of school holiday activities of any location in New South Wales.

From the Apia International Sydney  Kids Tennis Day with FREE event entry for junior tennis fans on Monday 12 January, to FREE Movies by the Boulevard and Australia Day Celebrations at Cathy Freeman Park, the Kids in the Park summer 2014-15 activities line-up features special attractions and familiar favourites EVERY DAY of the school holidays, from Saturday 20 December 2014 through to Monday 26 January 2015 (inclusive).

Sport-loving kids can work up a sweat while having fun at the NEW Basketball Clinics – MyHoops on 15 and 16 January from 9am – 3pm at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre ($175 for two days or $105 for one day; fee includes a basketball for each participant). Budding Michel Clarkes have a choice of two cricket clinics to practice their skills at the Sports Centre with Cricket NSW – in2CRICKET on 14 January between 9am and 1pm ($49) and CricketNSW – T20 Blast on 15 and 16 January from 9am – 1pm each day ($99).

Kids can escape the summer heat at the Aquatic Centre with Splasher’s Water Playground open every day of the holidays (10am – 7pm daily) with water slides, bubble-jets and huge inflatables for only $6 per child entry. Holiday Intensive Swimming will also operate throughout the summer break from 5-9, 12-16 and 19-23 January for $77.50 per child per week.

Also at the Aquatic Centre, adventure-seekers can get their hearts racing in an adrenalin-filled high ropes course at Urban Jungle Adventure Park (daily between 9.30am and 3.30pm for $35 per climber, including pool entry). For those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground, The Amazing Chase will get kids on their bike in a FREE treasure hunt style adventure around the Park (daily from Bicentennial Park and Newington Armory).

Imaginative kids will be spoilt for choice with a range of creative activities sure to spur Australia’s next wave of chefs and poets, as well as fiction and non-fiction writers. Kids in the Park summer will feature three NEW writing courses - The Writing Workshop – Tales of Mystery and Suspense on 14 January between 10am and 3.30pm ($132), The Writing Workshop - Heroes, Anti-Heroes and Nearly-Heroes (7 January 10am to 3.30pm for $132 per child) and The Writing Workshop – Animal Tales, Friendly and Freaky on 15 January between 1pm and 4pm ($75). Up-and-coming cooking superstars will love the chance to get hands-on at Café at WatervieW in beautiful Bicentennial Park with Cookies & Craft (13,16, 20 and 23 January from 10am – 11am for $22 per child) and Pizza & Pasta (15 and 22 January from 11am – 12pm for $22 per child).

Nature-lovers will have fun exploring the great outdoors with daily FREE Walking Safaris and FREE weeked activities at the BirdLife Discovery Centre in Newington Armory. From 19 to 23 January, inquisitive young minds will have a ball at the Whiz BANG Science & Wildlife Day at Sydney Showground ($98 per child per day) where they can get hands-on with science and nature experiments.
