Future Diving Champions Make A Splash In Sydney

The future of Australian diving is on show this week with the cream of Australia’s junior divers competing at the 2015 Australian Elite Junior Diving Championships at Sydney Olympic Park.

Speaking at the opening ceremony today, NSW Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres highlighted the importance of the event to Australia’s diving future.

“The 2015 Championships are part of the ongoing selection process for identifying Australia’s future champions, a long and rigorous process that will help develop Australia’s future diving superstars,” Mr Ayres said.

“It’s great to see New South Wales hosting the event this year as part of the lead up in the process of identifying potential Australian representatives at next year’s 2016 Rio Olympic Games.”

The 2015 Championships will see teams from NSW, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia, together with representatives from New Zealand, take part in three days of elite competition across all diving disciplines.

Sydney Olympic Park plays host to the New South Wales Institute of Sport, home to some of Australia’s finest athletes, including diving champions such as Melissa Wu, Matthew Mitcham and Esther Qin.
The 2015 Australian Elite Junior Diving Championships takes place at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre from today until Friday, 10 July.
