ARTEXPRESS at the Armory 2016 - Free exhibition at Sydney Olympic Park

The largest metropolitan display of the travelling ARTEXPRESS exhibition will be showcased at Sydney Olympic Park's Armory Gallery from Tuesday 1 March – Sunday 24 April 2016 (inclusive).

The twelfth annual ARTEXPRESS at the Armory exhibition will open daily from 10am-4pm, with FREE public entry.

Featuring the major works of 44 top-scoring 2015 HSC Visual Arts students, the theme of ARTEXPRESS at the Armory 2016 is Within Reach – a theme selected by respected curator, Danielle Gullotta.

Ms Gullotta's fifth consecutive ARTEXPRESS at the Armory event, the 2016 display of works by some of the state's best budding artists collectively "reflect on world history, popular culture and personal experiences," said Ms Gullotta.

"It is this reflection that ties many of these works together to present an interesting vision for possibility and potential that these young artists have expressed visually and that are just within reach, even if in our imaginations.

"The creative process of questioning and challenging to reach a resolved artwork is evident in the broad range of expressive forms including painting, photo-media, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, graphic design, documented forms, textiles and fibre, ceramics, time-based forms and the complete bodies of works by many artists. This contemplative exhibition is within reach for audiences of all ages to enjoy and form their own responses to the concepts and concerns explored," added Ms Gullotta.

“The Armory at Sydney Olympic Park is the perfect venue to showcase this year’s ARTEXPRESS. The breadth and depth of art on display by our Higher School Certificate students, with a focus on those from Western Sydney, suggests the next generation of artists will certainly be ones to watch,” said Stuart Ayres, NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events.

ARTEXPRESS at the Armory 2016 will include FREE Curator Talks at 12pm on Sunday 6 March and 17 April, as well as a range of FREE kids’ workshops during the Easter school holidays at the Armory Gallery...
