Imperial Imprisonment
Collection of Works
My work 'imperial imprisonment' is an reflection of the living style within the forbidden city as an outsider perspective, I got inspire by the film 'The Last Emperor' (1987), as I've always interest in this mysterious culture - china, I started to investigate differed period and story that happened, through standing in different characters perspective and emotional states, moreover I understanding how 'the forbidden city' owns another name - 'prison', the most wealthy and rich 'prison', which further draws my attention to the most powerful 'prisoner' -- the emperor, as he owns the most authority and wealth, however he has the most tragic life, as he was born to be an prisoner, he have no choice and chance to change his life. my material use are pencil drawing and acrylics on canvas, I used two contrasting material in color to demonstrate the black and white living style compare to the colorful and rich living style to express the contrasting perspective as an 'outsider' and 'prisoner'. furthermore, I wanted to demonstrated the concept of 'two sides of the same coin'. is all about the way you look at things, and allows me to question on different decision making and stand on other peoples perspective.
