Setting the Scene
Introduction to Cross Curriculum priority areas: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures and Sustainability. A quick introduction to the ‘MURAMA APPROACH’ and getting your students involved.
10:00am Session 1: Aboriginal Perspectives and Programming for the Primary Classroom
The session will focus on creating a local text for morning literacy sessions and then show you how to build strong connections in your afternoon science classrooms. Aimals such as frogs, crabs emus and birds form the focus of the units. Play with text to integrate science so that your students learn to love Aboriginal stories that are linked to science related themes.

11:15am Session 2: Guided River-Walk
We will walk together from Wentworth Point along the Parramata River back to the Murama Arts and Cultural Education Centre. Along the journey members of the Murama team will share local Aboriginal history & culture and a collective vision for sustainable education and cultural tourism.
Lunch will be provided at the Murama Arts & Cultural Education Centre (Building 15, Newington Armory)
1:00pm Session 3: The Murama Approach to Teaching
Experience a mini MURAMA event. Meet some of the amazing young people who are the emerging Aboriginal youth leaders in our schools who mentor and teach at our Murama events. Learn to weave and help paint the mural which tells the stories behind the local region. Also experience the Australian museum’s exhibit and other cultural activities.
2:00pm Session 4: It’s a wrap!
A round of reporting back, to see what accredited PD teachers are wanting from future seminars. Also bring a business card or your details to exchange with your peers and others. Networking is part of how to get Aboriginal perspectives strongly embedded into your school.
