Master Plan 2030 is a comprehensive plan guiding the long-term development of Sydney Olympic Park. Sydney Olympic Park hosted the “best Games ever” and is considered the world-leading example of successful Olympic legacy. The Park will continue to be a major event destination, enhance our environmental and recreational value and provide ongoing support to the development of community and elite sports.
In its next stage of development, Sydney Olympic Park has an important role to play to support the Greater Sydney Commission’s Three Cities approach and has been identified as a “lifestyle” precinct within Greater Parramatta and the Olympic Peninsula.
Major transport infrastructure projects will support the evolution of the precinct and enhance Sydney Olympic Park’s role as a premier destination for cultural, entertainment, recreation and sporting events.
Access to Sydney Olympic Park will be improved and travel times to and from the Sydney and Parramatta CBDs reduced by Sydney Metro West, which proposes a station in the Park. Sydney Olympic Park will also be serviced by Stage 2 of Parramatta Light Rail, which will greatly improve access to the Park for residents living in Parramatta and areas north of the Parramatta River.
With the recent recognition of Sydney Olympic Park becoming a world leading 6-star Green Star Community, an increase in affordable housing, further provision for accessible parking and adjustments to public domain and property development plans, Master Plan 2030 is a significant initiative that will ensure Sydney Olympic Park continues to deliver outstanding social, economic and environmental benefits for the people of Sydney and NSW,” said Planning Minister, Anthony Roberts.
This plan reflects that Sydney Olympic Park is maturing into one of Sydney’s most dynamic places to live, work and play. The Olympic legacy burns very brightly in this Master Plan. Even as the skyline changes there is no doubt sport is still firmly planted in the DNA of Sydney Olympic Park.
Master Plan 2030 is the most significant Planning announcement since the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It provides certainty for private sector capital investment to benefit the Park and its entire region.
On completion of the Master Plan 2030, Sydney Olympic Park will be further activated to provide:
• 10,700 homes for 23,500 residents
• 34,000 job opportunities
• New education sites and local parks
• 100,000 square-metres of additional retail space
• New streets to improve access and widened roads for future light rail corridor, encouraging the use of public transport and non-car commuting modes.
• New buildings to create a lively entertainment hub to support Sydney Olympic Park’s current major venues and complement its existing sports capacity
• Changes to the Local Infrastructure Contributions Fund
