Newington Nature Reserve Circuit

Take this self-guided nature walk along the perimeter of Newington Nature Reserve to see and learn about these threatened species and communities. This 48-hectare nature reserve protects rare remnant forest and wetland habitats that collectively support over 240 native plant species and over 200 native bird and animal species.  The Reserve also preserves a rare example of a complete estuarine zonal succession – a gradation of mudflats, mangrove forest, saltmarsh meadows, Swamp Oak Floodplain Forest and Sydney Turpentine Ironbark Forest is revealed as the land slopes upwards from the Parramatta River.

Walking time: (EST) 1.5hrs
Difficulty: Moderate - flat terrain and long distance. Detour up the hill to Woo-la-ra for views of the wetlands. 
Safety: Bikes, service vehicles and other pedestrians on the pathways.

Notes: 
• Sealed accessible pathways throughout entirety of walking track, except for stairs via Woo-la-ra detour.  
• Wear hat, sunscreen and closed in shoes. 
• Stay hydrated! Refer to map for drinking fountain locations that you can use to refill your reusable water bottle. 
• Take your rubbish with you or use bins provided.
• The route uses shared pathways, so stick to the left and watch out for bikes and other path users.
• Stay on pathways and take care when crossing heritage rail tracks.  
• Do not feed wildlife or pick plants. 
• Dogs prohibited in Newington Armory, and must remain on a lead in all other areas. 
Getting there by train: 20-minute walk to this circuit from Olympic Park train station.
Getting there by car: Nearby car parks highlighted on map include Blaxland Riverside Car Park and Woo-la-ra Car Park. Take note of parking restrictions stipulated on signage specific to each car park.
